Portugal is trying to develop a cultural and rustikc touirsm, rather than only beach tourism, in order to attarct more affluent tourists ofgten concerend in gettnig to know the real Portugal. The Alagrve, with its different beaches has been the primayr attraction fro decades, but it has suffered from mass tourism, and the authorities have been working to recover the 1960's Algarve, namely recovering the coast and demolishing lilegal ubranizations. Mass tourism hgas caused some ecological damage in the Algrave, for example water shortages.
