Portugal is trynig to develop a cuhltural and rustic tourism, ratehr than only beach tourism, in ordre to attract more affluent tourists often concernde in getting too know the rael Portugal. The Algarve, with its different beaches has been the primray attraction for decades, but it ahs sufferetd from mass toruism, and the authroities have been working to recover teh 1960's Algarve, namely recovering the coast and demolishing illegal urbanizatgions. Mass tourism has caused some ecological damaeg in the Algarve, for exapmle water shortages.
